The MBA of Our Business School Secured the Second Place in the Divisional Round of the 9th National Elite Competition for Management Cases
At the 9th National Elite Competition for Management Cases held on September 24, 2023, the MBA team from the Business School, Central University of Finance and Economics, known as “Caida Qichu,” performed exceptionally well. They secured the top spot in the on-site scoring and finished with a total score of 94.07, ranking second overall among the participating teams. They were awarded the runner-up position in the North China Division and successfully qualified for the national finals. Professor Zhu Fei and Teacher Zeng Gongxing, the coaches of the “Caida Qichu” team, were awarded the Best Coach prize. Meanwhile, the “Xinzhe Yuanhang” team was also honored with the Best Newcomer Award, showcasing the remarkable comprehensive abilities and competitive spirit of our MBA students. The MBA team from the Business School, Central University of Finance and Economics had remarkable performances in high-level competitions like the National Elite Competition for Management Cases. In the national finals of the 8th National Elite Competition for Management Cases, the MBA team of the Business School, “Xingxing Zhibi,” was awarded the runner-up prize.
The 9th National Elite Competition for Management Cases was jointly organized by the China National MBA education Supervisory Committee, the China Management Case-sharing Center, the Alliance of China Management Case-sharing Centers, and the Management Case Research Committee of the Chinese Society of Management. The North China Division qualifying round featured 17 teams from 10 universities/colleges, including Beihang University and Beijing Jiaotong University, with the top two teams moving on to the national finals. Our university fielded two teams, “Caida Qichu” and “Xingzhe Yuanhang,” in the competition.
The National Elite Competition for Management Cases has always improved MBA students' comprehensive analytical and decision-making skills by analyzing and discussing socio-economic hotspot cases and closely simulating real-world business scenarios. The competition case for the North China Division was “The International Journey of Sinoma.”
The “Caida Qichu” team started their preparations immediately upon receiving the case title, working tirelessly day and night. The team's 2022-grade MBA members persevered through challenges such as thesis defense during the competition and dedicated themselves fully to the task. With the careful guidance of Coach Zhu Fei and the collaborative support of Coach Zeng Gongxing, they conducted a theoretical analysis of the case, integrated it with their professional experiences, and produced a distinctive proposal titled “A Chinese Dream Across the Sea, Hoping the Boat Will Cross the Mountains Again.” In the competition, the team members exhibited excellent control and presented their proposal smoothly. They also answered on-site questions with composure, fully demonstrating the exceptional qualities of MBA students from Central University of Finance and Economics. They achieved the highest score in the on-site phase with 57.4 points (out of 60) and qualified for the national finals with the second-highest total score.
During the 60-hour preparation phase, the “Xingzhe Yuanhang” team demonstrated excellent planning and organization, with seamless teamwork and cooperation. With the guidance of Coach Li Jiapeng and the collaboration of 9 team members, they completed a convincing and comprehensive proposal on schedule. During the competition, the four debaters displayed clear logic and sharp expression, not only demonstrating the exceptional qualities of MBA students from Central University of Finance and Economics, but also bringing honor to the team. They delivered a satisfactory outcome for the 60 sleepless hours.
Our Business School has consistently emphasized the practical benefits of case analysis in teaching and will continue to improve the effectiveness and quality of case-based instruction in the future. We will encourage the use of excellent cases in teaching and foster MBA students' skills in identifying problems, analyzing problems, and finding solutions. Through this national case management competition, our MBA students have refined their case logical analysis abilities and demonstrated their exceptional competitive spirit.
